First in 18 years: Birth of Tiger Cubs at Delhi Zoo
For the first time in 18 years, a Bengal tiger, named Siddhi, has given birth to cubs at the Delhi zoo, it said in a statement on Monday. The Delhi zoo has four adult Bengal tigers, Karan, Siddhi, Aditi and Barkha. The zoo has been the home to tigers since its inauguration on November 1, 1959, maintaining its tiger population for conservation and education.
Over the years since it was inaugurated, tigers have bred successfully in the zoo and have been exchanged with zoos across India and abroad. In addition to six ‘golden’ Royal Bengal tigers including the cubs, the Delhi zoo also is the house of five white tigers, taking the total number of tigers at the zoo to 11.
