First Indian Women To Score 50 International Goals

Ngangom Bala Devi has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to score 50 international goals. She plays as a forward for the Manipur Police and the Indian national team. She achieved her 50th goal in a match against Pakistan in the 2024 SAFF Women’s Championship. 

Social Media Banned For Under-16s

In a historic move on November 28, the Australian Government passed the world’s strictest law that stops children under the age of 16 in Australia from using social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. The law will take at least 12 months before it comes into effect. The law will fine social media companies a whopping amount of 50 million Australian Dollars if they do not follow the rules. With this Australia became the first country in the world to bring in a social media ban for under-16s. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says it’s needed to protect young people from the “harms” of social media.

2024 To Be The Warmest Year

According to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, 2024 is all set to be the warmest year on record and the first calendar year to cross the symbolic 1.5°C limit. The experts have also said that 2023 was 1.48°C above the pre-industrial levels and 2024 is “likely” to be more than 1.55°C.

India Wins Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

The Indian hockey team defeated the People’s Republic of China 1-0 in the final to win the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar. Deepika scored the winning goal for the Indian women’s hockey team and finished as the tournament’s top goal scorer with a tally of 11. 

This was India’s third Women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey title, bringing them level with the Republic of Korea as the most successful nation in the competition’s history. The Indian women won their maiden title in 2016 before clinching the 2023 edition as well.

Stars of Wimbledon 2024

Former French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova from the Czech Republic claimed her first Wimbledon women’s singles title. She won 2 sets to 1 against Jasmine Paolini, who is from Italy. 

In a repeat of last year’s final, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to win his second consecutive All England Tennis Championship in London. Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. Roger Federer has won the most Wimbledon titles.
