Finland: Happiest Country in the World

The World Happiness Report came out on March 20, marking the United Nations International Day of Happiness. Once again Nordic countries are ranked on top of this list. The No. 1 country, Finland, has held onto its top ranking spot for seven years straight. 

The report is prepared after an extensive survey in more than 140 countries. The report is a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and an editorial board.

The Extremely Rare ‘Night Parrot” Found In Australia

A group of researchers in Australia have said that they have discovered the largest known population of the night parrot in the world. A study conducted by scientists and indigenous rangers, from 2020 to 2023, found 50 of these critically endangered and rare birds in the Ngururrpa Indigenous Protected Area of Western Australia.

The night parrot or the night parakeet is a small parrot which is found in Australia. It is one of the most elusive and mysterious birds in the world, with no confirmed sightings of the bird between 1912 and 1979, leading to speculation that it was extinct.

Two Indian Navy Women Set On A Global Voyage

Two women officers of the Indian Navy, Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A, have gone on a challenging expedition to circumnavigate the Earth. They started their expedition from Goa and hope to cover 21,600 nautical miles over eight months.

Their journey was flagged off by the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi from the Naval Ocean Sailing Node, INS Mandovi near Panaji, as both the officers sailed on the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini. The two officers are expected to return to Goa in May 2025.

Female Astronauts Fly Further Than Ever Before

The Polaris Dawn SpaceX mission was historic for another reason. In a historic achievement for women in spaceflight, SpaceX engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis have become the two women to fly further from Earth than any other in history.

Mission Successful First-Ever Civilian Spacewalk 

The Polaris Dawn SpaceX mission has created history by successfully conducting the first ever “all civilian” and commercial spacewalk. An American billionaire, Jared Isaacman has become the first non-professional astronaut to do a spacewalk as a part of this mission.

This was the first spacewalk ever managed by private companies instead of a government. Jared Isaacman blasted off with three other people, mission pilot Scott Kidd Poteet and SpaceX engineers Anna Menon and Sarah Gillios. The SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn crew spent five days in orbit. The Polaris Dawn crew reached an unprecedented altitude of approximately 1,400 km above the Earth’s surface. The four-member civilian team travelled further into space than any humans for more than fifty years.
