On October 9, 2024, Ratan Tata passed away, at the age of 86, due to age related health issues in Mumbai. He was one of the most well-known businessmen in India. He was the former Chairman and the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group. He was the most influential industrialist in the country and has left behind a legacy that has significantly shaped the landscape of Indian industry. Ratan Tata was an excellent leader and was known for his many acts of kindness. He helped a lot of people and had a great passion for animals.

Who Was Ratan Tata?

Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937, in Navsari, Gujarat to Soonoo and Naval Tata. However, he was brought up by his grand-mother Navajbai R Tata. He was born in a prominent and rich family. His great-grandfather was Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group.

After attending school in Bombay, Ratan Tata finished high school in New York City in 1955. He then studied at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, where he earned a B.S. (1962) in architecture before returning to India to work.

Tata Group Leadership 

Ratan Tata served as the chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and 2016-2017. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded globally and diversified its business interests. Under his leadership, Tata Group also launched several successful projects, including the Tata Nano, which aimed to create an affordable car for the masses.

He expanded the Tata Group by acquiring international companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel.

The Pragyan rover has discovered an ancient, 160-kilometre-wide buried crater near its landing site. The findings have been published in the latest issue of Science Direct by scientists from the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad. Images clicked by the Pragyan rover’s navigation and optical high-resolution cameras have shown the structure of this ancient crater, offering important clues about the Moon’s geological history.

This new species has been named Sasayamagnomus saegusai and it belonged to a group of plant-eating dinosaurs called ceratopsians. The species thrived in the Northern Hemisphere from the late Jurassic period through to the Cretaceous period. Scientists say the discovery is the furthest east that a ceratopsian dinosaur has been found.

A Strange Team Of Hunter: Octopus And Fish!

Octopuses usually hunt alone. However, they noticed that octopuses team up with different types of fish to catch prey like shellfish and crabs. The fish helps to find a good hunting spot while the octopus decides when to attack. Experts suggest that this joint effort leads to better success compared to either species hunting alone. They also pushed each other around to keep the group in order and the experts were able to film octopuses punching fish to keep them in their place.

Researchers in Gabon have discovered that gorillas might help us humans discover future medicines and drugs. They observed and studied the tropical plants that were eaten by the wild western lowland gorillas and also used by local human healers to treat people. The researchers found and identified that four of such tropical plants had medicinal properties.

The researchers tested these plants in a laboratory and found that these plants were high in antioxidants and antimicrobials. This means that they have special chemical properties that help them fight germs and some superbugs. One of the plants was particularly good at treating a tough germ called E.coli. Great apes are known to self-medicate by selecting plants with healing properties.
