India Shines in Clean Energy

As countries around the world race to cut pollution and slow climate change, clean energy has become a major global priority. Nations are investing in renewable power sources that do not run out and do not release harmful greenhouse gases. India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing countries in this transition, making significant progress in solar and wind energy. India’s growing clean energy capacity is now placing the country among the global leaders in renewable power, highlighting its role in building a more sustainable energy future.

India’s rise as a renewable clean energy leader

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, India now ranks among the top countries in the world for renewable energy capacity. Renewable energy comes from natural sources such as the Sun, wind, and flowing water, which are naturally replenished and produce little or no pollution. India has made particularly rapid progress in solar energy, becoming the third-largest country in the world for solar power capacity. Large solar parks across states like Rajasthan and Gujarat, along with growing rooftop solar installations, are helping generate electricity from sunlight on a massive scale.

The country has also expanded wind energy projects and other renewable power sources, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil. As a result, more than half of India’s electricity capacity now comes from non-fossil fuel sources, marking a major milestone in the nation’s energy transition. India has set an ambitious target of reaching 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030. Experts say that achieving this goal will strengthen India’s energy security, reduce pollution, and support global efforts to tackle climate change.
