Indian sport keeps finding new heroes, and this time the spotlight is on judo. At an age when many athletes are still finding their feet, Himanshi Tokas has already climbed to the very top of the world. Her achievement is not just personal success. It marks a historic first for Indian judo and shows how far the country’s young athletes are now reaching on the global stage.
At just 20 years old, Himanshi Tokas has become the first Indian ever to be ranked World No. 1 in junior women’s judo. She competes in the 63 kg category and now leads the International Judo Federation junior world rankings with 610 points.

How did she reach the top?
Himanshi’s rise has been powered by consistent wins at major international events. She secured the top ranking after:
- Winning gold at the Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia
- Claiming victories at the Taipei Junior Asian Cup
- Taking gold at the Casablanca African Open
These back-to-back successes pushed her ahead of competitors from around the world.
This milestone is a big moment for Indian judo, a sport that is still growing in popularity. Himanshi’s ranking proves that Indian athletes can compete and win at the highest levels, even in sports where the country is still building its presence.
