Social Media Banned For Under-16s

In a historic move on November 28, the Australian Government passed the world’s strictest law that stops children under the age of 16 in Australia from using social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. The law will take at least 12 months before it comes into effect. The law will fine social media companies a whopping amount of 50 million Australian Dollars if they do not follow the rules. With this Australia became the first country in the world to bring in a social media ban for under-16s. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says it’s needed to protect young people from the “harms” of social media.

Gracy’s Day Out On Halloween

Written By Vansh Goel

School: Heritage Xperiential Learning School, Gurugram, Class: Vth

Halloween was Gracy’s favourite time of year. She was enthralled with the spookiness and delight of pumpkins and candies. Gracy enjoyed cutting out the pumpkin with her family and lighting it inside of her before leaving. She simply couldn’t contain her excitement for the upcoming candy. “When can I go trick or treating?” she continued asking her mother, who sighed and said, “Not now, Gracy.”

… Beep! Her alarm went off. Yay! She screamed and instantly dressed up like a unicorn and rushed out of her house for her candy.

When she was done her bag was immensely heavy. When she walked through a street with dim lights she saw her school bullies standing in a semi-circle eyeing her candy.

She tried to ignore but then one of the members sneered “hey little unicorn why don’t you share some candy with us”

Gracy’s heart skipped a beat and her spine tingled, but she composed herself by recalling her mother’s words, “Be brave and stand up for yourself.”

“No way, I worked hard for this candy,” she responded after taking a long breath. The bullies attempted to hide their amazement at the girl’s confidence. Another one mocked, “Then, what are you little girl going to do about it?”

The first person to reach the end of the street will receive the candy, but if I win, you will leave me alone. That’s my challenge to you.

These bullies exchanged looks of surprise at a young girl challenging them. “All right, wager 3..2..1 to go!”

Gracy felt as though her life depended on her running like a cheetah. She was more concerned with crossing the finish line when she realised she had left the bullies behind.

She surprised herself by becoming the first to cross the finish line! She was tired and panting. Panting and barely able to speak, she smiled triumphantly and said, “A deal is a deal.”

She then gave them some candy, letting them know that kindness is more powerful than bullying

She felt proud as she made her way home, her heart much fuller but her bag a little lighter. Halloween had become more than candy; it had become a time of self-defence and self-discovery.
