From 6 Hours to 2.5! New Economic Corridor Transforms Travel

Travelling between cities is becoming faster in India as new economic corridor and expressways are built across the country. These modern roads are designed to reduce traffic, shorten travel time, and improve connectivity between major regions. One such important project is the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, which is set to transform journeys between the national capital and the Himalayan foothills.

India has opened the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, a high-speed expressway that will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from around 5–6 hours to about 2.5 hours. The new highway connects key areas across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, making travel smoother for commuters, tourists, and businesses.

Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor Cuts Travel Time To 2.5 Hours

The economic corridor has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore and forms part of India’s larger plan to modernise road infrastructure and improve connectivity across northern India. By creating a faster route between the plains and the hill regions, the corridor will help travellers reach Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, much more quickly. Apart from making journeys faster, the highway is expected to support trade, tourism, and industry by allowing goods and services to move more easily between cities. Improved connectivity can also encourage economic activity in towns along the route.

A special feature of the economic corridor is its wildlife-friendly design. The expressway includes animal underpasses, eco-bridges, and green corridors, which allow animals to safely cross the road without coming into contact with vehicles. These crossings are designed to protect wildlife habitats and reduce the risk of accidents involving animals. Infrastructure experts say projects like this expressway show how modern transport networks can improve daily life, shorten travel times, and support the country’s economic growth while also protecting nature.

What is an economic corridor?
