India’s First World Scrabble Champion: Madhav Gopal Kamath

Big victories do not always come from stadiums or race tracks. Sometimes, they come from sharp minds, quick thinking, and a deep love for words. India’s first world Scrabble champion has just been crowned, and the champion is only fourteen. This historic win has put India on the global Scrabble map and inspired young word lovers everywhere.

Fourteen-year-old Madhav Gopal Kamath from Delhi has made history by winning the World Youth Scrabble Championship 2025. The championship was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With this win, Madhav became the first Indian ever to win a major global Scrabble title.

How tough was the competition?

The competition was intense. Madhav faced 218 players from 18 countries. He showed remarkable consistency and focus, winning 21 out of 24 games. In fact, he performed so strongly that he secured the title before the final round was even played.

Madhav is already India’s national Scrabble champion, and this victory proves his talent on the world stage. India’s success did not stop there. Another young Indian player, 15-year-old Suyash Manchali from Bengaluru, also impressed everyone by finishing fifth, with 17 wins.

Together, these results highlight India’s growing strength in mind sports like Scrabble.
