Why can camels survive in the desert?
Camels have several special adaptations that help them survive in harsh desert conditions. They can regulate their body temperature, allowing it to rise during the day and cool down at night, which helps reduce water loss. They can also go for long periods without drinking and are able to survive on tough desert plants.
However, experts explain that camels still need enough water, shade, and vegetation to stay healthy. When droughts become longer and temperatures become more extreme, even these remarkable animals struggle to survive. The growing climate crisis is making life more difficult for both camels and the communities that depend on them, highlighting the need to protect ecosystems and reduce the impacts of climate change.
