Spain beat Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup 2026
The final was played on July 19, 2026, at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA. Fans witnessed a gripping contest in which both teams battled hard but could not find the net during the first 90 minutes.
Spain controlled much of the match, but Argentina defended bravely to keep the score level. The game took a dramatic turn in second-half stoppage time when Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the defending champions to play extra time with only 10 players.
Spain finally broke the deadlock in the 106th minute. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match after being set up by Nico Williams, sending Spanish fans into celebration. Argentina pushed hard in the closing minutes but could not find an equaliser.
The victory gave Spain their second FIFA Men’s World Cup title, with their first coming in 2010 in South Africa. Argentina, who won the 2022 World Cup and entered the final as defending champions, fell just short of retaining the trophy.
