Indian para athletics has witnessed another historic moment. Competing in Bengaluru, Sumit Antil broke his own world record with a huge throw of 74.82 metres, once again proving why he is considered one of the greatest para athletes in the world today. The achievement has brought fresh excitement to Indian sports and strengthened Sumit Antil’s position as the undisputed king of the F64 javelin category.

Sumit Antil breaks his own world record

On May 27, 2026, at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru, Sumit Antil launched the javelin to an incredible distance of 74.82 metres in the men’s F64 event. The throw broke his previous world record of 73.29 metres, which he had set at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. The effort not only secured the gold medal but also established a new world record in the category. Maharashtra’s Sandip Sargar finished second with 62.88 metres, highlighting the huge gap between Antil and the rest of the field. Officials, coaches and spectators applauded the performance as another example of Antil’s consistency at the highest level.

This is not the first time Sumit Antil has rewritten the record books. The Paralympic champion famously broke the world record three times during the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021 while winning gold. Since then, he has continued to dominate international competitions, including defending his Paralymic title in Paris and winning multiple World Championship gold medals. With the latest 74.82m throw, Antil has now broken the world record several times in his career and remains the athlete everyone is chasing in the F64 category.

The record is important not only for Sumit Antil but also for Indian para sports. His success continues to bring global attention to para athletics and inspires young athletes across the country. The Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships also served as a major platform for athletes preparing for future international competitions, making Antil’s performance even more significant.
