World’s Oldest President Paul Biya Wins Cameroon Election at 92

At 92 years old, Paul Biya has made history once again. The long-time leader of Cameroon has won another presidential election, securing a new term in office and keeping his title as the world’s oldest president. The Junior Age has all the details for you!

Cameroon’s 92-Year-Old Leader Paul Biya Extends Rule After Election Win:

Paul Biya has led Cameroon since 1982, which means he has been in power for over four decades, which is longer than most people in the country have been alive. Before becoming president, he served as the country’s prime minister. Known for his quiet but firm style, Biya has maintained control through a mix of loyalty within his party and strong influence across government institutions.

The election took place on 12 October 2025 across Cameroon. According to the Constitutional Council, Biya secured 53.66% of the vote, defeating his main rival, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who received 35.19%. Winning again means Paul Biya will begin his eighth term as president, extending his leadership until he is nearly 100 years old. That makes him the world’s oldest elected head of state, surpassing all other current national leaders.
